Kyushu University has announced it will open the Center for Asia-Pacific Future Studies on March 1. The Center, which will seek to resolve issues face the Asia Pacific region, will be an interdisciplinary hub of various humanities-oriented departments and will be administered jointly with Stanford University in the United States. According to Kyudai, this will be Japan’s first joint research center in the field of humanities with a US university. The Center will be located on Kyudai’s Hakozaki Campus and will be composed of about 20 professors, including six researchers from Stanford. The Center’s inaugural research topics will include trans-border issues such as yellow sand, dispute resolution, and the preservation of cultural assets damaged in conflict areas.
