Kyushu Electric Power Co. will begin construction of a new geothermal power plant in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Kyushu Electric Power has been investigating underground hot water and steam conditions in the northeastern part of Mount Eboshidake in Kirishima City since 1998 and, as a result, received consent from the city this month to construct a geothermal power plant. Construction work is scheduled to begin in June of next year, with operations at the end of the fiscal year 2024. This will be Kyushu Electric Power’s first new geothermal power plant in 17 years.
