On May 22, a new record of five consecutive days without new cases of COVID-19 infection in Fukuoka was reached. The cumulative total remains at 658, including 586 cases in which patients have recovered as of May 21. Against this background, the governors in Kyushu and Okinawa held an online meeting to discuss possible relaxation of restrictions on social activities. For the time being, the governors intend to continue asking residents to refrain from crossing prefectural borders until the end of May, while the schedule may be moved forward in case the national government lifts the state of emergency for the whole country on May 25.
