Kyushu Companies Fail to Come Clean on Consumption Tax

The Fukuoka and Kumamoto Regional Taxation Bureaus announced the results of surveys they took of individuals in the seven Kyushu prefectures from July 2007 to June 2008 for income and consumption tax payments. They discovered that business proprietors failed to report consumption tax in 6,703 cases. The bureaus say they levied 2.163 billion yen in charges for back taxes and penalties in the same period. Those are the highest figures in both cases since the consumption tax was instituted in 1989.
