The Fukuoka and Kumamoto Regional Tax Bureaus released information from Kyushu corporate income statements for FY 2008 that shows aggregate corporate income in the region during the year fell 23.4% from the previous year to 1.4789 trillion yen. This was the sharpest year-on-year decline since the record year of 1989, and the amount of income reported is the lowest in the past 20 years. The largest decline among the prefectures was 27.4% for Fukuoka Prefecture, which accounts for more than 50% of the region’s corporate income.
