The Kyushu Economic Research Center has released its white paper for 2011, titled A New Stage for Foreigner Tourism in Japan. Citing Kyushu’s proximity to the Asian continent, the center proposes that the region position itself to receive Asian tourists as a location that is safe, close, and suitable for short-term visits. They also said their trial calculations indicate that tourism’s impact on Kyushu was worth 151.2 billion yen in 2010 and created employment for about 17,500 people.
