Kyushu Electric and Government Consider New Pumped Storage Plant

Kyushu Electric Power Co. and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Kyushu Regional Development Bureau are considering the construction of a new pumped storage power plant using two existing dams in Oita Prefecture. This initiative aims to reduce construction time and costs compared to building a new dam. The plan involves connecting Shimouke Dam and Matsubara Dam with a waterway, using pumped water to generate electricity during peak demand times. The project would also aid in flood control by utilizing the combined storage capacity of both dams. Source: Kyushu Electric Power
