Kyushu Electric Introduces Scholarship Repayment Scheme for Engineers

Kyushu Electric Power has unveiled an initiative that commits to repaying student loans for their new engineering recruits from April 2025. The program is designed to alleviate the financial burdens of employees who have used Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarships, offering up to ¥1,260,000 in repayments over a maximum of seven years. This strategic move is part of the company’s effort to secure top technical talent by ensuring they can work without the worry of student debt.

In a bid to enhance workplace diversity, Kyushu Electric is also targeting an increase in the ratio of female engineers among its technical new hires. They are aiming to boost this figure to over 10% by the fiscal year 2025 and have set a longer-term goal of reaching at least 15% by 2028. Currently, women account for only 6.2% of the technical newcomers joining in April 2024, with a mere 2% representation in the company’s overall technical workforce. Source: Kyushu Electric Power
