Kyushu Electric Power resumed operations at its Chinda Hydropower Plant in Bungoono, Oita Prefecture, on April 1 following major upgrades. The renovation, which began in May 2022, improved efficiency and increased annual output by 7% to about 58 million kilowatt-hours, enough to supply roughly 19,300 households. Maximum output capacity rose 19% to 9,900 kilowatts after replacing turbines, generators, and water conduits, and reinforcing channels. Originally commissioned in 1923, the plant had previously been upgraded in 1980. The company said the project supports efforts to expand renewable energy use and address climate change while strengthening domestic energy resources. Source: Kyushu Electric Power / Nikkei
