Kyushu Electric Power announced plans to build a large solar power generating plant in Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture, with a maximum capacity of 3,000 kW. Construction work is to start next autumn, and the plant will go on line either at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. It is expected to use up to 30,000 solar panels the size of a tatami mat. Its projected annual power output would meet the needs of 900 ordinary households.
