Kyushu Electric Power confirmed that it will begin trials this year for geothermal power generation using hot springs. One generator is capable of only 200 kW, so they are envisioned to be used in outlying islands. If the trials are successful, it could cut the power costs for residents of those islands, who now rely on oil.
