A survey by Teikoku Databank has revealed that the average age of companies in the Kyushu/Okinawa Prefecture region as of the end of 2011 is 26.4 years, the lowest of nine blocs in Japan. It was the first time the company had conducted such a survey, and it confirmed the trend that companies throughout the country were “aging”. The younger age of the companies reflects a higher-than-average rate of new startups. The highest average age within the region was 29.5 for Nagasaki Prefecture, and the lowest was 20.7 for Okinawa Prefecture.
