The Fukuoka branch of Tokyo Shoko Research revealed its statistics for corporate bankruptcies with liabilities of 10 million yen or more for the Kyushu-Okinawa region in FY 2008. A total of 1,484 companies shut their doors during the year, a 13.8% jump from the previous year and the highest level in five years. Aggregate liabilities amounted to 672.343 billion yen, soaring 58.7% from the year before to the sixth-highest total since 1963, when statistics began being kept.
