The Kyushu Shinkansen resumed service along its full route at 6 a.m. on Sep. 18, 52 days after the Kumamoto earthquake. Repairs have been completed between Kumamoto and Shin-Minamata, where tracks and equipment sustained damage at more than 1,000 locations. Trains connecting with the Sanyo Shinkansen are running at about 90% of their pre-earthquake frequency because of reduced speeds near Shin-Yatsushiro. The JR Kagoshima Line between Uto and Yatsushiro and the Hisatsu Orange Railway between Yatsushiro and Higo-Tanoura remain closed.
