Kyushu Symphony Targets Surplus by 2026

The Kyushu Symphony Orchestra has appointed Hisashi Goto, president of Fukuoka Bank, as its new chair. At his first press conference, Goto disclosed that the orchestra has recorded operating deficits for six consecutive years, including a ¥75 million shortfall last fiscal year. He warned that continued losses could trigger dissolution under foundation rules. To secure the orchestra’s future, he pledged to achieve a surplus by FY2026 through strengthening finances, increasing commissioned performances, and developing more appealing programs to expand its audience across Kyushu.
