The Big Dora cafeteria at Kyushu University’s Ito Campus (Nishi-ku) has started using trays with No Ikki! (“no chugging”) stickers to raise awareness among freshmen of the dangers of binge drinking. The No Ikki Campaign was launched last year by liquor importer Pernod Ricard Japan with four participating universities throughout Japan, including Kyudai. The sticker warns students with a big red “54%”—the percentage of minors taken to the hospital in 2010 for acute alcohol poisoning. The campaign is held in the spring since there are typically more opportunities to drink at parties at this time of year. The stickers will be used on 200 trays until May 7.
