Kyushu University, NHK Fukuoka Unite for Disaster Prevention, Accessibility Efforts

Kyushu University and NHK Fukuoka Broadcasting Station signed a comprehensive partnership agreement on March 26th. The pact aims to combine the university’s research strengths with NHK’s communication capabilities for societal contributions in areas like disaster prevention/mitigation, barrier-free accessibility and more.

At the signing ceremony, University President Tatsuro Ishibashi and NHK Fukuoka Director Kenichi Takezoe formalized the first-ever media partnership for Kyushu University. They stated their aligned visions to leverage each other’s “research” and “communication” assets for the public good.

Specific collaborations will include:
– Advisement from university experts during NHK disaster coverage
– Outreach programs on disaster preparedness for international students by NHK
– Working with university disability support groups to enhance barrier-free access at the NHK Fukuoka station

Both sides expressed hopes the partnership can tackle complex social challenges. NHK seeks to utilize the university’s research insights, while Kyushu University wants to disseminate knowledge through the broadcaster’s platforms. The agreement formalizes cooperation leveraging the university’s scholarly resources and NHK’s public broadcasting role to jointly address disaster prevention, accessibility and other key issues impacting communities.
