Kyushu University’s Hakozaki Buildings to be Preserved Digitally

Kyushu University is exploring the possibility of digitally preserving the buildings that will be demolished during the closure of their Hakozaki Campus. The university has been moving Hakozaki-based departments to their new Ito Campus over the last few of years. A couple of key structures will remain standing in honor of the school’s history with the Hakozaki site, which stretches back over 100 years. However by the time the move will be completed later this year, approximately 200 buildings of various sizes will have been demolished. The university is using a laser system to create a 3D record of the buildings before they are brought down. Officials hope to publish the information on the internet in the future.
