Kyushu University’s Ito Campus Gets AI-based On-demand Bus Service

A new AI-based and on-demand bus service was launched inside the Ito Campus of Kyushu University on Apr. 2. The new service, named “aimo”, has no fixed routes or time schedule. Students and university staff can choose hop-on/drop-off points from the 37 locations using a smartphone app and the system indicates the most effective route to the driver. The university decided to officially introduce the system after testing it for 18 months beginning in September 2017. The AI system, created by NTT Docomo, is expected to be used in more than 100 areas by the end of the fiscal year of 2020. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 4/2/2019
