Large-Scale Hydrogen Base Planned in Kitakyushu City

Fukuoka Prefecture announced on April 27th that it will establish a public-private-academic organization in May to build a large-scale hydrogen base in the coastal area of Hibikinada, Kitakyushu City. The goal is to promote the accumulation of hydrogen-related industries in northern Kyushu, encouraging the use of hydrogen within the prefecture. The establishment general meeting of the “Fukuoka Prefecture Hydrogen Base Promotion Council” (tentative name) will be held at a hotel in Kitakyushu City on May 11th. Approximately 30 hydrogen-related companies and organizations are expected to join as members. The Hibikinada coastal area in Kitakyushu City has a concentration of energy-related facilities such as renewable energy and liquefied natural gas (LNG) bases, making it an ideal location due to its well-developed port infrastructure. Fukuoka Prefecture is home to a diverse range of industries, including automotive, and is seen as having high potential demand for hydrogen. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture
