LGBT Couple Sues Kumamoto City Government

An LGBT couple in Kumamoto City is suing the city for violation of the constitution. The men, who have been recognized by the city’s partnership system, submitted an official marriage notification to the city and were rejected. To compensate for their mental suffering, the couple is suing for two million yen in compensation from the local government. This is the second lawsuit of its kind in the Kyushu area.
