According to a survey by Tokyo-based IT security giant Trend Micro, more than half of all companies based in Kyushu and Okinawa have yet to put in place personal information security measures ahead of the adoption of the so-called “My Number” social security and tax identity system. Individuals will start receiving their 12-digit ID numbers this October, and companies will be required to use those numbers on official government forms starting next January. According to Trend Micro, 55% of the Kyushu and Okinawa-based companies it surveyed this March said they had not decided on any security measures for managing the new IDs, which is 10% more than the national average.
