JR Kyushu announced that seventeen sections of their local rail lines face large deficits for the fiscal year 2018. For example, the sections between Saeki-Nobeoka (Nippo Main Line,) Yatsushiro-Hitoyoshi (Hisatsu Line) and others have seen less than two thousand daily average users, and their financial losses amount to ¥5.6 billion. As reduced birth rates and other social factors severely affect the feasibility of running local trains, JR Kyushu decided to openly announce these numbers for the first time, hoping to find solutions with local users.
