The Fukuoka branch of credit rating agency Tokyo Shoko Research released its report on bankruptcies exceeding 10 million yen in the first half of FY 2008, which shows the liability of those bankruptcies was 394.31 billion yen. This is double the amount of the year-before period and the fourth-highest total since statistics began to be kept in 1963. There were a total of 760 bankruptcies during the period, 10.7% higher than the year-before period and the first time the overall total exceeded 700 in five years.
