McDonald’s Gifts Safety Whistles to School Children

This April, McDonald’s has given 46,473 safety whistles to first-graders in Fukuoka (859,223 throughout Japan in total). This is the 14th year the project has run since it started in Okinawa in 2003, and over the years McDonald’s have given out a total 7,930,000 whistles. Donald McDonald (the Japanese McDonald’s mascot) has also hosted crime prevention classes, and certain branches have a “Children’s 110 House” – children who feel under threat can go to these branches where members of staff will look after them and contact the police.
