A ceremony was held to mark the completion of work on the new Oita City shipyard of the Oita Prefecture-based Minaminippon Shipbuilding Co. The company is adding to its shipbuilding capacity to meet the growth in worldwide demand for large vessels. They hope the shipyard, which is capable of building ships in the 150,000-ton class, will enable them to double annual sales to about 23 billion yen in three years.
