Misuzu-an Soba Shop to Close After 70 Years

Misuzu-an, a long-standing soba restaurant in central Fukuoka, will close on December 20 after more than seven decades in business. The Tenjin shop, known for dishes such as curry nanban soba and katsu curry soba, has seen long lines since announcing its closure. President Mihoko Obata, age 87, said she chose to retire and decided to close the restaurant after learning that the building’s co-owner, Best Denki, would also shut down. Obata, who ran the shop with her late husband, said customers’ appreciation supported the business over the years. The restaurant plans to continue serving its usual menu until its final day.
