Multilingual Smartphone Rental For Tourists

Fukuoka City is experimenting on an initiative for people visiting Japan to borrow multilingual smartphones that will help distribute valuable tourist information. The languages available are English, Korean, and Chinese. Providing advice on where to find the best restaurants and shops in town, the phones will be available to guests staying in accommodation on Minoshima Shotengai (shopping district), Hakata. The success of the project and its ability to get visitors to shop will be reviewed before a decision is made on when to fully introduce the scheme. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 6/9/2017
