On Mar. 2, a kickoff event was held for the Munakata-Oshima Olle, Fukuoka Prefecture’s first designated hiking course on the Kyushu Olle, a series of hiking courses certified by the Kyushu Tourism Promotion Organization. About 200 people, including 80 Korean tourists, joined the event on Oshima, an island off the coast of Munakata City. The Kyushu Olle is modeled after the Jeju Olle (‘olle’ means “narrow path” in the Jeju dialect of Korean), and has 12 designated courses. Suh Myung-suk, founder and chairman of Jeju Olle, also attended the ceremony. “I was surprised by how the ocean views and the trees reminded me the course on Jeju. I hope this course will provide relaxation to many people and help build friendly ties [between the two countries],” exclaimed Suh.
