The Japan Muscular Dystrophy Association will open its first clinic in early December in Nakagawa Town. According to the Association, it is extremely rare for an association of patients like theirs to open a dedicated clinic. Doctors in the clinic will also make house calls to house-bound MD patients. There are between 20,000 and 30,000 MD patients in Japan, of which an estimated 2,500 are in Kyushu. There are only a handful of hospitals that in Kyushu that handle MD, and almost none offer house calls. The Association chose the metro Fukuoka area for its convenient location.
