Nagasaki Appoints First Female Deputy Governor

Yuko Baba, a 44-year-old official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, has been chosen to succeed retiring Deputy Governor Ken Hirata in Nagasaki Prefecture. If approved by the Prefectural Assembly on July 4th, Baba will begin her four-year term on July 7th, making history as the first female Deputy Governor of Nagasaki. Governor Kengo Oishi stressed the importance of incorporating women’s perspectives in government during the announcement.
