Nagasaki Backdrop for New James Bond Film

The Nagasaki Film commission announced that a location appearing in the latest James Bond film is based on Gunkanjima “Battleship Island” in Nagasaki. The new 007 film – the 23rd in the series- is titled “Sky Fall” and features Daniel Craig reprising his role as James Bond 007. In July of 2011 the crew visited Gunkanjima, an uninhabited and abandoned island in Nagasaki Prefecture. Due to security concerns, they decided not to shoot the film on site, but instead took footage and recreated the location using CGI and a set in a London studio. Gunkanjima appears as a “dead city” belonging to the enemy crime syndicate off the coast Macao in the new film. Sky Fall premieres in Japan on Dec. 1st.
