Nagasaki Prefecture opened a Northern Governor Office in Sasebo on April 27 to address regional disparities between the more developed south and central areas and the less-developed north. Governor Ken Hirata, who took office in March, made the initiative a policy priority. He plans to visit the region about twice a month to gather input from local governments and reflect it in policy decisions. The office is based within the Northern Promotion Bureau. On its first day, Hirata met leaders from nine municipalities to discuss issues including transportation, healthcare, and industrial development, as well as regional cooperation frameworks. The effort aims to strengthen engagement and accelerate solutions to long-standing development gaps. Source: Nikkei / Nagasaki Prefecture
