Nagasaki University to Avoid Hiring Smokers

Nagasaki University announced a new policy to hire non-smokers in the future. University President Shigeru Kono said at a press conference on Apr. 19 that the new policy is stated in job descriptions distributed from earlier this month. Applicants will be asked about their smoking habits at the interview, and those who smoke will need to pledge to give up smoking. It is the first case of excluding smokers during the recruiting process for a national university. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 4/19/2019
