Near Majority Favors Airport Expansion Plan


A council created by the national government, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Fukuoka City to examine ways to relieve congestion at the Fukuoka Airport has analyzed citizen input, it was learned on the 18th. About 49% of the respondents were in favor of a plan to add an additional runway to the existing airport, with about 28% opposed. In contrast, 35% approved of a plan to build a new airport in Hakata Bay, while 39% opposed. This was the first time the council has revealed the results of its surveys.
