The Fukuoka City-based Kyushu Economic Research Center issued a forecast calling for -1.8 % real economic growth in the Kyushu-Okinawa region in FY 2009. The center also revised downward its September forecast for regional growth for the current year from 0.6% to -1.0%. If this happens, it will be the first time there have been two consecutive years of negative growth in the region since statistics began being kept in 1955.
