The 28 Kyushu-based shinkin banks released their financial results for the year ended March 2010, which showed that 20 of them recorded improvements in net profit. Nine of these banks posted losses the previous year, and eight of them swung to profitability last year. One factor behind these results, however, was the government program to allow small businesses to suspend loan repayments, which prevented bankruptcies.
