Maersk of Denmark, the world’s largest container shipping company, began operating a new container ship route between the Port of Hakata and North America. According to Fukuoka City, the company will operate five ships on the route. Their ships will enter the Port of Hakata on Tuesdays and from there make a roughly two-week trip to Los Angeles or Oakland in the United States. After calling on other ports, they will return to the Port of Hakata about 35 days later. Tires and bikes will be shipped from Japan, while it will receive animal feed, construction materials, and food products as imports.
