New Duty-Free Shop to Open in Fukuoka Mitsukoshi

Fukuoka Duty Free Tenjin will offer a unique tax-free shopping experience in the heart of Fukuoka. It is scheduled to open on the ninth floor of Fukuoka Mitsukoshi on Apr. 1, and while other tax-free shops offer products free of consumption tax, this store will offer items without consumption tax and without customs, liquor and tobacco taxes (just like an airport duty-free shop). The range of products on offer includes cosmetics, perfumes, shoes, bags, fashion items, watches, jewelry, home appliances, livingware, foods, liquor and tobacco. Anyone can visit the store, but to purchase a tax-free item, you will need your passport and boarding pass. The shop’s logo has been designed to reflect its relation to its sister shop inside Fukuoka Airport. The design of the shop will be upscale and sophisticated, designed to appeal to foreigners and create a comfortable environment. This is the first airport-style duty-free shop in Kyushu. It is hoped that the new shop will attract the attention of overseas tourists looking for high-quality, made-in-Japan products. The sales target for the first year is three billion yen. Famous brands (30 to 40 in all), such as Kosé (cosmetics), Shiseido (cosmetics), Casio (watches), Seiko (watches), Tumi (luggage), Samantha Thavasa (accessories), Sony (audio appliances), Hennessy (liquor) and Philip Morris (tobacco), will be sold. Customers will receive a special receipt at the time of purchase, which they present at a counter after clearing immigration inside the airport to pick up their goods.
