The Fukuoka City branch of the Development Bank of Japan estimates that the new Hakata Station Building scheduled to open in the spring of 2011 will earn roughly 130 billion yen in revenue annually. The bank also estimates the new building will cause a revenue decline of about 30.1 billion yen (8.6%) for the Tenjin shopping district. The bank also notes, however, that because the Tenjin area is the site of the terminal station of the Nishitetsu Railroad and has a large number of specialty shops, it is unlikely there will be a simple shift to the Hakata Station building.
