New JR Kyushu Station Opening Delayed to 2027

JR Kyushu, the Japanese rail company, has announced a two-year delay in the opening of a new station planned near the site of the former Hakozaki Campus of Kyushu University. The delay, pushing the scheduled opening from 2025 to 2027, is due to slowed redevelopment efforts on the 50-hectare site and surrounding areas. JR Kyushu and Fukuoka City decided four years ago, after the university’s campus closure, to establish a new station in parallel with the redevelopment project. This decision was made in response to local community demands. The new JR station is expected to be situated between Chihaya Station and Hakozaki Station on the Kagoshima Main Line, running on the eastern side of the former campus site, adding to the existing Fukuoka City Subway stations of Hakozaki Kyudai Mae and Kaizuka on the west.
