New Monthly Cap for Fukuoka Subway Touch Payment Service

Starting October 1, 2024, Fukuoka City Subway will launch a “monthly maximum fare service” to enhance the convenience of touch payment. With this new service, passengers will be charged a maximum of ¥12,570 per month for subway rides. This cap is equivalent to the cost of a full-line monthly commuter pass (“Chika Pass”) and will apply automatically from the first to the last day of each month, with no prior registration needed.

The service covers payments made using Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay cards, as well as debit, prepaid, smartphone, and wearable devices with touch payment capabilities. Passengers can simply tap their card or device on the designated readers at subway entry and exit gates. If the total fare for the month exceeds ¥12,570, no further charges will apply. It’s important to note that the cap only applies if the same card or device is used for all trips. Different devices, even with the same card number, will not be combined. Additionally, depending on the card issuer’s billing cycle, the final amount charged may vary slightly. This new service builds on the existing daily maximum fare option, offering even greater savings for regular commuters and promoting the use of public transportation in Fukuoka.
