The Outlets Kitakyushu will open on the site of the former Space World in Kitakyushu City on April 28 as one of the largest outlet stores in Kyushu, with approximately 140 outlets offering everything from fashion to sports outdoor, and lifestyle-related items. In addition to shopping, there are also a variety of entertainment facilities based on the theme of learning. One such facility is “Space LABO,” Kitakyushu’s science museum. Visitors can experience the wonders of science through a large tornado generator, the largest in Japan at approximately 10 meters high, and a planetarium equipped with state-of-the-art projection equipment in one of the largest domes in Japan. Meanwhile, the Kitakyushu Global Gateway, the first English-language education experience facility in western Japan, allows children from four to high school to experience simulated daily life in an English-speaking country at a facility designed to look like an overseas hotel and restaurant. SDGs initiatives are also being implemented, such as solar panels on a portion of the facility’s roof and the use of local Fukuoka Prefecture timber for the interior and furniture of the food court.
