A new public square will soon open in Kokura, Kitakyushu City. Senba Hiroba is located near the Izutsuya department store and will be used as a space for outdoor events. Local government worked with landowners to formulate a plan for the land that was once the site of the Kokura Hotel. Kitakyushu City Mayor Kenji Kitahashi expressed a desire to see the new square link to a wider trend of redevelopment. The Kitakyushu Chamber of Commerce will manage the space, which will open to the public on July 20. Source: Fuji News Network (FNN), 7/3/2019
