New Safety Sticker for Shochu

Renaissance Project of Fukuoka City has developed a safety sticker for shochu that will be placed on bottles of the beverage judged to be safe based on evaluations of the ingredients and the production process. Consumer concerns over products using rice have been heightened by the revelation that Mikasa Foods of Osaka resold impure rice to companies throughout Japan. One of the tests will be to have killifish, which are highly sensitive to toxins, swim in the tanks of water used by the shochu distillers. Renaissance Project is involved in the development and sale of shochu products through ties with distillers
