New Sculpture to Commemorate Fukuoka’s 130th Anniversary

A ceremony to commemorate Fukuoka City’s 130th anniversary took place at Fukuoka Civic Hall on November 13, and plans for a memorial object was announced. UK-born artist Yinka Shonibare CBE was commissioned to create public art inside the garden of the Fukuoka City Art Museum, entitled Wind Sculpture (SG) II. The huge monument will represent themes such as “exchange” or “diversity,” and will be installed between May to June in 2020. Source: Fukuoka Art Museum, 11/13/2019
