New Visa Category Will Let Foreign Workers Stay up to 10 Years

The Government of Japan will begin offering a new kind of visa to increase the intake of foreign workers. Workers must satisfy a set of common criteria that cover all job types as well as criteria specific to the skills required by their respective occupations. Only workers who have competed the technical intern training program, which lasts up to five years, can apply for this new visa. Once approved, they can remain in Japan for up to five more years, making it possible for them to work for a maximum of 10 years. The government hopes this will help alleviate Japan’s increasingly severe labor shortage. Source: fiba.jp
