Fukuoka City has approved a new building agreement for Nishi Ward, prohibiting the use of houses and apartments as minpaku (Airbnb-style apartment sharing) accommodation. The building agreement of the Nagarano Danchi (residential area) in Nishi Ward had recently expired and the renewed rules, which include an item stating “houses cannot be used as minpaku,” came into force on Mar. 7. More than half of the residents supported the inclusion of a new rule that restricts accommodating visitors and tourists who might cause sound problems of carrying around their luggage late at night or take out the trash without understanding the local regulations. It was the first time to have such a case in the city after the rule to permit minpaku accommodation came to effect. Source: Fukuoka City
