The Nishinippon Shimbun conducted a questionnaire survey of 100 independent voters who voted to support the Koizumi Japan Post privatization plan in 2005 and to support the Democratic Party of Japan in 2009. In response to the question of what sort of government they would like to see after the next election, 49 answered “a new framework after a political reorganization”, four said a DPJ-led government, and 11 said an LDP-led government. When asked whether they had positive expectations if Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto’s One Osaka group were to become involved in national government, 74 answered in the affirmative. One female office worker in her 30s said, “He’s a bit extreme, but without an approach like that, nothing will change”.
