Nishitetsu Buses to Complete New Banknote Adaptations by 2025

Nishitetsu, the private railway operator based in Fukuoka, has announced plans to replace bus fare boxes to accommodate new ¥1,000 banknotes starting next month. The complete replacement will take over a year, with an expected completion by the end of fiscal 2025. Nishitetsu President Koichi Hayashida also indicated the potential introduction of cashless-only buses on select routes, driven by the high adoption of cashless payments like Nimoca. Additionally, Nishitetsu’s train ticket machines will be updated by the end of the current fiscal year, while supermarket registers will be ready by the new banknotes’ issuance on July 3rd.
